I painted this Steller's Jay after a trip to Yosemite, where I couldn't go more than a few minutes without seeing (well, hearing is more like it) one. I love how their sooty black crest melts into deep blue. This painting is a nod to that beautiful place and the beautiful creatures I saw there.
